Acne is often a difficult ailment to manage. It comes and goes without much warning and can ruin an otherwise perfect day. There are numerous creams and ointments that you can use to clear it up, but did you know of the secret weapon that is hiding right in your refrigerator?

Egg whites are one of the easiest ways to rid yourself of acne, especially since most people have eggs in the house as a staple. But first of all, what are egg whites? Simply enough, egg whites are the clear part of the egg that you see when you crack it open. The egg white serves as protection for the yolk, and also proves extra nutrients should a chick develop.

But what could egg whites do for you? Well, eggs are full of proteins and vitamins that make them a good substitute for meats. It is these proteins and vitamins that actually work well to combat acne. These proteins are particularly good at combatting the acne bacteria, rebuilding your skin cells, and soaking excess oil up which gives the bacteria less to feed on. This effectively starves them out.

The benefits of using egg whites are fairly easy to see. First off, it most likely means you don't have to go out and get anything extra, as most people have eggs as a staple in their house. Keep it simple with things that you have. Second of all though, is that it is natural. There are no chemicals being imbibed, and all of the proteins that your skin will absorb are all completely natural.

If you want to give this a go, separate out two egg whites from their yolks, and whisk them in a bowl. Let them stand for a minute, and then cover your face with the beaten egg whites. You can use a washcloth to do this, though doing it with your fingers is actually easier. Cover your face a few times with the egg whites, stopping each time to let the layer completely dry before you go on to the next one. Once you have used up all of your egg mixture, or are satisfied with the number of layers, allow the mask to dry for about 20 minutes. Now you can take off the mask, which comes up easily with warm water. Pat your face dry with a soft washcloth, and then apply the moisturizer of your choice.

Of course, if you have any concerns, check with a doctor (like those at Northwest Dermatology) before doing anything too extreme, and if it makes the situation worse, seek care from a health care professional.
